About Me
Meg Rieger (she/her) is an adjunct faculty member in Music Education. Her approach to general music emphasizes student-driven, exploratory learning that builds independence, collaboration, and meaningful musical understanding. Drawing from Kodály and modern band pedagogy, she helps future educators develop joyful, play-based experiences where children learn through active participation, reflection, and shared discovery.
Meg taught in Chicago Public Schools for 12 years. She currently maintains her classroom practice by teaching children's music classes at the Old Town School of Folk Music. She also works as an educational consultant, supporting teacher preparation programs and urban student teaching placements across Chicago. Previously, she served as Director of Urban Education at The Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture, where she led seminars focused on equity, reflection, and community-based pedagogy. Meg holds a Master of Music Education from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Music from Illinois Wesleyan University. She currently serves as Secretary of the Chicago Area Kodály Educators.
